The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), spearheaded by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), has launched the second phase of its pilot program, aiming to provide substantial industry exposure to India's youth. This phase offers over 115,000 internship opportunities across 25 diverse sectors, encompassing more than 740 districts nationwide. Esteemed organizations such as Reliance, HDFC Bank, Indian Oil, and Maruti Suzuki are among the top 500 companies participating, selected based on their average corporate social responsibility (CSR) expenditure over the past three years.

The scheme is specifically designed for individuals aged 21 to 24 who are not currently engaged in any full-time academic programs or employment. Each intern will receive a monthly financial assistance of ₹5,000, with an additional one-time grant of ₹6,000 to support their transition into the professional environment. The internship spans 12 months, combining relevant training with at least six months of practical, on-site experience to ensure that participants can apply their acquired skills effectively in real-world settings.

To broaden the program's reach, interactive sessions are being conducted with eligible youth in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Bihar. These sessions aim to inform and engage potential candidates, providing them with insights into the opportunities available through the PMIS.

In addition to financial support, interns are covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana insurance schemes throughout their internship period. Partner companies also have the option to offer additional coverage, ensuring comprehensive support for the interns.

The PMIS is a strategic initiative to harness the potential of India's youth population by bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. By facilitating hands-on experience in leading corporations, the scheme aims to enhance employability and foster a skilled workforce aligned with the nation's economic growth objectives.
