Indian travelers are exploring international destinations more than ever, prompting global tourism boards and travel companies to implement targeted strategies and partnerships to attract this burgeoning market. On February 20, 2025, Thomas Cook (India) and SOTC Travel announced a two-year strategic partnership with the Korea Tourism Organization to enhance South Korea's visibility among Indian tourists. In 2024, South Korea welcomed over 176,000 Indian visitors, marking a 44% increase from the previous year. This surge is attributed to the growing influence of Hallyu—encompassing K-pop, K-dramas, and K-beauty—which has captivated Indian audiences. To maintain this momentum, South Korea is expanding its tourism strategy beyond traditional promotions to include regional development and customized special interest tours.
Beyond South Korea, Thomas Cook (India) has established memorandums of understanding with tourism boards from Moscow, Georgia, and Sabah (Malaysia). These long-term strategic partnerships aim to showcase new locales and experiences tailored to the evolving preferences of Indian travelers. Rajeev Kale, President and Country Head of Holidays, MICE, and Visa at Thomas Cook (India) Limited, emphasized the significance of these collaborations in creating visibility and driving growth.
The increasing number of high-potential outbound Indian travelers has garnered significant attention from international tourism boards. Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, noted that this demographic is influencing global travel trends, leading destinations to adapt their offerings to cater to Indian tourists. The trend reflects a broader shift in travel preferences, with Indian tourists seeking diverse and unique experiences abroad.
As Indian travelers continue to explore global destinations, the travel industry anticipates sustained growth and evolving strategies to meet the demands of this dynamic market.
