India's electronics exports reached a significant milestone in December 2024, hitting $3.58 billion, the highest level in the past 24 months, according to data from the Commerce Ministry. This marks a 35.11% growth compared to the same month in the previous year, highlighting the robust momentum of the country's manufacturing capabilities.
The consistent growth in electronics exports is driven by pro-business policies, such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, along with increasing domestic production capacities and a surge in global demand for Indian electronics. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal noted the sector's resilience, stating that electronic goods exports in December 2024 had reached their highest level in two years at $3.58 billion, underscoring the growing potential of India's electronics industry.
The sector has demonstrated steady monthly growth, with exports in October 2024 reaching $3.43 billion and $3.47 billion in November 2024. Other industries have also contributed to this upward trend. Engineering exports rose 8.35% annually to $84 billion, accounting for about 25% of India’s total exports, while pharmaceutical exports grew by 0.63% to $2.49 billion in December.
Quarterly export figures have also set new records, with shipments reaching $198.5 billion in April-June 2024-25, $196.1 billion in July-August, and $208 billion in October-December. These numbers reflect an increase from the previous year, showcasing the growing strength of India’s export-driven sectors.
This surge aligns with India’s ambition to establish itself as a global manufacturing hub under initiatives like Make in India and Digital India. It also highlights the vital role of the electronics sector in driving overall economic growth and reinforcing the country's position in the global market.
