Prayagraj/Lucknow:  The Mahakumbh Mela, one of the world's largest spiritual gatherings, is set to unfold in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26, 2025. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has embarked on an unprecedented scale of preparation to ensure that the event not only upholds its spiritual significance but also showcases India's cultural heritage on a global stage.

Preparatory Efforts by the Yogi Government

The Yogi government has left no stone unturned in its efforts to organize Mahakumbh 2025. Over Rs 6,500 crore has been earmarked for the event, focusing on infrastructure development, sanitation, and safety. Here are some key initiatives:

Infrastructure Development: The state has significantly expanded the festival area to 10,000 acres, including the construction of extensive ghats stretching over 12 kilometers. New roadways, bridges, and the enhancement of existing infrastructure are being meticulously planned to handle the expected influx of 450 million devotees. The introduction of a "Tent City" managed by the UP State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) promises luxury accommodations for approximately 2,000 guests, ensuring a comfortable stay for pilgrims from around the world.

Digital and Technological Integration: For the first time, Google Navigation will be integrated to guide pilgrims seamlessly through the expansive Mela area. Additionally, AI technology is being deployed in ICUs to monitor patient health, with special AI-enabled microphones to facilitate communication across 22 regional and 19 international languages, enhancing medical care during the event.

Safety and Security: With an anticipated crowd of such magnitude, security is paramount. The government has introduced underwater drones for surveillance at the Sangam, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati converge. This innovative measure ensures safety during the sacred baths. Moreover, mock drills involving multiple emergency services, including fire-fighting robots, have been conducted to prepare for any eventualities.

Sanitation and Hygiene: Learning from previous Kumbh Melas, a zero liquid discharge system, installation of 1.50 lakh toilets, and a ban on single-use plastics have been implemented to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

Cultural and Spiritual Enrichment: The government has launched a website and app for the Mahakumbh, providing devotees with all necessary information. Cultural programs, including the establishment of Kalagram Village for art and exhibitions, are designed to enrich the spiritual experience. The event also includes the participation of 13 Akharas, with grand processions marking their entry into Kumbh City, symbolizing public faith and cultural unity.
